Digital Hub Aachen

The digitalHUB Aachen e. V. is committed to the digitization of the economy and the public sector in the Aachen region. Our members are medium-sized businesses, industry, start-ups and institutions that support the goals of the association. The digitalHUB Aachen brings together startups and IT SMEs (digital “enablers”) with traditional SMEs and industry as users (digital “users”) in digitalCHURCH to jointly develop and implement new digital business models. This is supported by the region and science (“Supporter”). In this way an “Aachen Area” as a digital innovation country will be created in euregional terms. The digitalization center of the digitalHUB Aachen is part of the initiative “Digitale Wirtschaft NRW (DWNRW)” and one of six supported centers for the digital economy in NRW.

Startup Ecosystem Aachen Area

According to entrepreneurship analyses IKT.NRW, the founding ecosystem of the Aachen Area ranks among the top 3 in NRW with Cologne and Düsseldorf. The reasons for this are the regional strength in knowledge transfer, the positive climate for creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship as well as the heterogeneous environment. Since the 1980s, more than 1,600 technology-oriented start-ups have emerged in the Aachen region. The region has 13 technology, service and start-up centres. In the digitalHUB alone, more than 100 digital start-ups are involved with digital products or services.
Prof. Dr. Malte Brettel, Prorector for Industry and Economic Relations at RWTH Aachen University, sums up that the developments in the region are based on unique resources and add: “RWTH Aachen University in particular, with more than 45,000 students, more than 5,600 researchers and more than 375 companies working on the campus, offers endless opportunities for technological breakthroughs and entrepreneurial opportunities.
A special feature of the Aachen Area is the euregional networking between Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
